September 2013 - Coaching Blueprint - marketing for life coaches
Interview:  Andrea Owen

Interview: Andrea Owen

Andrea Owen is a life coach and biz consultant. I was immediately attracted to her honesty and smarts, and after we got to know one another when she interviewed me for her popular podcast series, I knew I wanted to invite her to be part of the Coaching Blueprint program.

In this interview, we discuss:

  • Andrea’s approach to building a coaching business while you have kids;
  • Why blocks of time work better than bits and pieces when you’ve got kids;
  • The mental blocks that drain energy for moms;

The full interview that’s part of the Coaching Blueprint program also gets into knowing your limits for client load; the most effective system she’s found for planning a profitable year; how long it really takes to make money from a practice; hiring a virtual assistant; how to avoid manipulative marketing collaborations; and keeping networking relationships authentic.

As per usual, those of you who use the program can access the full interview–for free. No upgrade fees. As the program changes, you always get the latest n’ greatest updates. (To access Andrea’s interview, head to the “Full Interviews” section for the link; it’s in the Table of Contents).

Do you really need a niche?

Tara Gentile is such a rock star. I enormously like and respect her, because she’s pragmatic and interested in how-to that goes far beyond a few strategic maneuvers.

In this video, we talk about niche and the real deal–do you actually need one?

Exercise: Take a look at just one of your sales pages. Is it clearly defined for a specific person, or a specific person with a specific set of values and beliefs?

In The Coaching Blueprint I go beyond the discussion of niche and demographics and devote an entire chapter to exploring the concept of psychographics–the value indicators that people live by.

Are you still searching for the “silver bullet” that tells you how to run your business?

It’s seductive to think that if you just follow how someone else is doing it, you’re going to have the same kind of success, isn’t it?

Just follow their program, emulate their style, execute the to-do lists that they tell you to execute.

The Coaching Blueprint is the antithesis of that–you can’t do it anyone else’s way. You can only do it your way.

And along the way? You can get the insights of more than 12 other amazing coaches who want to share with you what they stumbled over and how they struggled, so that you can circumvent some of those challenges as you create your practice, your way.

After the video
I paired some talk with money and charging alongside the conversation about “doing it your way” on purpose–because you’re invited to start there.

  • Where are the ugly comparisons in your coaching practice/business?
  • Where does money signify worth in your coaching practice/business?
  • Where do you look at what someone else makes (financially) and think that if you don’t make the same, you’re not “doing it right”?

Don’t avoid these questions!

If you’re not doing money work, you’re shooting your business in the foot–and the amazing thing is that the money work does not go away with time. It just continues to evolve and change as you grow what you do.

Interview: Tara Sophia Mohr

Interview: Tara Sophia Mohr

Tara Sophia Mohr is a wise living coach–and emphasis is here on the “wise.”

I had no idea how much we had in common–how many similarities we’d experienced during our first year of building our coaching practices–until we had this interview.

In this excerpt for The Coaching Blueprint, Tara shares about the truth of how hard the first year of starting your practice can be. At one point during the interview, I said to her, “I wish we’d known one another, then!”

It’s so hard to feel alone while floundering.

It’s so much easier to walk this path when you’re in collaboration with others. Listen to our interview and I’m guessing you’ll hear a lot that you resonate with!

Interview: Pam Slim

Interview: Pam Slim

So–you don’t want to follow the rules. Then again, what’s the line between “rebel” and crazy”?

In this short excerpt of our interview for The Coaching Blueprint, I ask Pam Slim about the must-haves that are needed, in her opinion, even for those people who know that they want to strike out from the crowd and do things a little differently.

The rest of our interview covers topics as wide as what her personal game-changer was that took her to another level in what she was doing as a coach, as well as her personal vision for her world and her life (it’s beautiful). Enjoy!
